The Daily Echo newspaper called us a "Home from home nursey" and that's exactly what we aim to be! The children here feel welcomed and cared for, and most newcomers settle very quickly. We try to teach the children around an "in the moment planning" format. This means that we allow the children to explore subjects as they naturally occur, and try to plan fun and educational activities around their original thoughts and ideas. This means that no two preschool days are ever the same, and there are always new adventures to be had!
The children here benefit from our large, open plan main indoor area with book corner, home area, creative station, small world play and construction room. Outside we have our wonderful new garden which was completed in 2018 after lots of fundraising and hard work from the preschool staff & committee. We have a play house which doubles as a reading nook, a mud kitchen, sand pit, flower / vegetable beds, as well as lots of natural and man-made play equipment. In warmer weather we often pop up the paddling pool outside for everyone to cool off in (we always recommend having spare clothes in the children's preschool bags!).
We enjoy regular trips throughout the year, whether it's a walk down to the village to buy baking supplies or visit the park, or venturing further affield on the bus to Pets at Home to experience a small animal workshop! We attend some of the local care homes to sing and dance with the residents which the children really enjoy, and we have our Summer Trip every year to Paulton's Park.
We are a charity preschool, and have fundraising events throughout the year organised by staff and our committee. Our Easter Fayre and Christmas Singalong are always big on the preschool calendar, with the children learning songs and proudly displaying their costumes for friends and family. We have stall holders, children's entertainers, a raffle, and refreshments available to raise money for new toys & equipment for preschool. Previous events such as Pub Quiz Nights, Skittles evenings etc have also been very succesful. Every July we proudly take part in the Hedge End Carnival, with the children and parents getting involved in costumes and decorating the float. It is a fantastic community event which we all look forward to, and really helps towards the fundraising for the preschool. We are always on the lookout for parents to help us with these events, so please do come in and chat if you would like to lend a hand at the next one!
We have a fantastic location here at the Village Hall where we have been for 40 years, and feel we really are at the heart of the community. Our manager Louisa was actually a student of the preschool as a child! We are now lucky enough to have experienced generations of the same families come through our doors, as well as seeing the baby brothers & sisters of previus pupils come back as two, three & four year olds. It is a privilege to serve the local community in the way we do.
